O Katy kept everyone in suspense

As the first class of heifers entered the festive show ring on Thursday morning, February 27, 2025, the Niedersachsenhalle Verden filled up noticeably with spectators. A lively influx meant that the best seats with the best view of the very appealing first class quickly became scarce.
Jürgen Ballmann spoke of a “great snapshot” in this fantastic group of young heifers before his decision on the final line in the first winner selection of the day. From the very first minute, he was impressed by Leonie from Morisse GbR in Bremen, who outshone her competitors as the young winner with her completeness. Hat Halligalli from Josef und Bernd Hatke GbR from Bösel shone with plenty of body, length and style, attributes that deservedly earned her the reserve victory. FG Latisha from Henrik Wille from Herbergen radiated youthfulness from front to back. Her complete appearance helped her to receive an honorable mention in this selection of winners.

Progeny Presentation

Three selected progeny groups of the bulls Davido, Say Red PP and Zivet were shown to the interested expert audience.
Judge Ballmann also took action here and named the best animals. Zivet daughter Reine from Klinge GbR from Itterbeck was the winner of the progeny. For Jürgen Ballmann, there was no doubt about her. Her fantastic udder, balance and fine feet & legs were the deciding factors. Bee Kayla from Johannes Beerepoot from Stadland stood alongside Reine as reserve winner. The Say Red PP daughter presented herself beautifully, with a great udder and clear advantages in the fore udder as well as the width in the rear udder. The Honorable Mention went to Davido daughter Palina from Korf-Jahrens GbR from Clenze, due to her very good legs and also great rear udder.

Young breeder of the year

MASTERRIND's young breeders' representative for Saxony, Stefan Ufer, proudly listed the many successes of the young breeder of the year. In addition to countless participations in young breeders' competitions and a high level of commitment, she has already been Saxony's Milk Queen and has represented the sector at many events. Sandra Hartenstein was awarded the trophy to great applause. Now working for MASTERRIND herself, she had been involved in the preparations for the Schau der Besten over the previous few days and was a little overwhelmed by the award.

Medium Winner selection

Creating moments that get under your skin is certainly a specialty of this impressive show. The winning selection of medium-sized cows once again set the standard for what breeders are capable of achieving when conscientious breeding and outstanding management of domestic herds come together. “What we see here really makes your heart beat faster,” said Ballmann, looking at the end line just before the winner's clap.
The audience accompanied the judging decision with enthusiastic clapping. When Ballmann approached Cord Hormann from Wilcor Holsteins in Warmsen, it was clear that O Katy would be the medium winner. Her fantastic ring presence and very good udder balance were the deciding factors in placing her ahead of the reserve champion Loh Milana. Loh Milana from Loh An Holsteins GbR from Emsbüren scored with extreme quality and freshness even before the Honorable Mention MO Loh Inteam from Mersch GbR and Loh An Holsteins GbR from Freren.

Lifetime performance class

A moment that strikes the heart of every breeder is the entry of the lifetime production class, which is the highlight of the old classes. Cows that have produced over 147.00 kg milk at their peak, such as Loh Lippi from Loh An Holsteins from Emsbüren, and yet can be shown in the ring in a quality that simply leaves you speechless and devout.
“If this sight leaves you cold, you were born on an ice floe,” said the judge in a nutshell. “This is the breeding goal we are all working towards!”.
Every single one of these cows deserved to be at the top of the list, but Jürgen Ballmann still had the difficult task of making a choice. In the end, he opted for Loh Lipa Dua from Loh An Holsteins from Emsbüren ahead of FG Memphis from Henrik Wille from Essen. Loh Lippi, the dam of Loh Lipa Dua and the cow with the highest performance was not only placed at 1c, but also brought a European novelty to the Verden show ring with her presence. A mother and daughter in a lifeline class, that has never happened before!

Old Winner selection

This show turned out to be a real festival for the Wilcor Holsteins stud farm from Warmsen, as they also took the champion title in the champion selection with O Kalotta. Her convincing side view and superior balance tipped the scales ahead of Albany from Ekkel GbR in Itterbeck, who set the standard as a fantastic cow with a high udder. The Honorable Mention went to an extremely strong Loh TJ Chilli from Loh An Holstein and Torben Melbaum from Emsbüren.

Selection of the Grand Champion

Piano and violin accompanied the six wonderful favorites on the red carpet into the hall. Jürgen Ballmann found the right words for this emotional moment. He would have been overjoyed when he learned of his nomination as judge of the Show of the Best and enjoyed the entry of the Grand Champion contenders all the more, as did each of the 1,800 visitors and around 4,000 viewers in the livestream.
But even the best show must come to an end and there can only be one “Miss Show of the Best”. This title also went to Warmsen after an all-round successful show day for Wilcor Holsteins. O Katy kept Ballmann in suspense until the very last minute and won the title for Cord Hormann, who was visibly delighted.
There was another shining moment in the spotlight for the Reserve Grand Champion: Loh Milana from Loh An Holsteins GbR from Emsbüren, gave the spectacular finale for a considerable show effort by the dedicated and enthusiastic Lohmöller family.
The Honorable Mention was awarded to O Kalotta, also from Wilcore Holsteins from Warmsen.
